A prolific influence on the Australian hairdressing industry, Marie Uva is sitting high at the helm of an empire built on creativity, integrity, education and refined business acumen. The Italian, Melbourne-born style muse has left no opportunity unturned throughout what can only be described as a rich decade-and-a-half in the business of hair.
The story began 16 years ago and quickly progressed onward and upward – culminating in the launch of UVA salon in 2013. Courtesy of passion both rare and invaluable, Marie has worn many hats and inspired many more. Evident in six consecutive Hair Expo Colour Technician of the Year finalist positions, Marie’s true talent is in seamless and unsuspecting colour blends. However, the visionary’s styling skills have welcomed not only the unprecedented double gong of AHFA Colourist of the Year 2009 and AHFA Victorian Hairdresser of the Year 2009, but a long and revered list of celebrity clientele. Genius when it comes to intricate up-styles (the girl can braid), it’s the effortless ‘twisty’ blow wave, and luxury beach texture that has earned Marie an enviable following of Melbourne ‘it’ girls – Jen Hawkins, Nadia Coppolino and golden girl, Bec Judd allowing only Marie to create their hair colour and design for some of the city’s largest, media frenzied events.
Despite huge celebrity demand and the launch of Greville Street’s UVA salon (alongside co-owners Joey Scandizzo, Joseph Semaan and John Scandizzo of Jam Creative), Marie refuses to lose touch with the heart of an industry that has treated her so well. No stranger to global and national ambassadorship roles courtesy of a long, loving relationship with Wella Professionals, Marie has led some of Melbourne’s most respected in-house education programs, and now acts as a mentor for the young HBIA team – forever advocating the best possible future for Australian hairdressing.
